It's summer festival time! I have to admit that the small town festivals we go to around here are not quite as exciting as the ones back home in Edmonton (I especially miss Heritage Festival), and we don't often make it to the big city ones around. However, the smaller ones are still fun to check out. Our town just had a Big Rig event for the kids, in which they brought in a bunch of heavy machinery and trucks for the kids to get up close and personal with. My favorite was the local medi-flight helicopter, and even more exciting was when it took off in the middle of the event! (Planned, not for an actual emergency). Our town will also be putting on weekly concerts in the park for a month where you can bring your cooler and hang out to watch music and purchase food from local food carts. I'm also looking forward to the Sweet Corn Festival where you can buy a huge box of cooked corn for only $7! Of course, also Concerts on the Square, Art on the Square and Taste of Madison. With all the other small town fairs, there is something to do every weekend.
My garden is growing well, EXCEPT, something is eating it! I'm not sure what exactly, but I'm thinking rabbits. We also have deer around, and definitely raccoons (do they eat gardens? I don't know). So, to my dismay, pretty much all of my beet tops have been gobbled up. Short of putting a fence around the beds, how to I keep the critters away? Anyone had any luck with anything they've tried?
