1poundfresh or frozen (thawed) strawberriesstemmed, cored and cut in half
6cupswater
2cupslemon juice(from 8 lemons)
½cupsuperfine sugaror more to taste, or your favorite non-nutritive sweetener - see note
Instructions
Add 1 pound fresh or frozen (thawed) strawberries and 2 cups water to a blender. Blend until smooth. Strain mixture through a fine mesh strainer in to a large pitcher. Discard the seeds and pulp.
Stir in the remaining 4 cups water, 2 cups lemon juice, and ½ cup superfine sugar into the pitcher with the strawberry mixture. Stir until the sugar is dissolved, adding more to taste as desired. Chill before serving.
Notes
With ½ cup of sugar, the lemonade will still be quite sour. But I like to use this as a starting point, and add more little bits at a time until you get to the sweetness you desire. I have also made this recipe using powdered Stevia instead of sugar - I used about ¼ cup to get to a level of sweetness that tasted good to me.To make your own superfine sugar, simply add the amount of sugar you plan to use to a food processor or clean coffee grinder. Process the sugar until it has a fine texture, like powdered sugar. Do not use powdered sugar, as it contains starch, which you don't want in your lemonade.
