Add 1/2 cup softened butter, 1/3 cup shredded aged cheddar cheese, 1/4 cup shredded Parmesan cheese , 1/4 cup shredded Swiss cheese, 1 small clove garlic, 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, and 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce to the bowl of a food processor. Pulse in the food processor until well mixed.
Note: you can make as little as one slice of cheese toast at a time, or as many as 10 slices at once (or the maximum that will fit into your toaster/oven). Toast bread until golden brown on both sides (it's easiest to use a toaster oven with a broiler function, but if you don't have one, you can toast the bread in a regular pop-up toaster. Alternatively, use your oven's broiler to toast the bread - just make sure to watch it carefully, and don't forget to toast both sides).
Turn the broiler on high and set an oven rack at the top. Top each slice of bread with 2 Tablespoons of the cheese spread, and without crushing the toast, spread it evenly over the top of the bread. (See notes below if you're using cheese spread that's cold from the fridge).
Place the bread on a wire rack that is set on a baking sheet, and place the baking sheet on the top rack under the broiler. Watch the bread carefully while it's under the broiler. Broil until the cheese is bubbling and starting to brown. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and transfer the cheese toast to a plate. Cut into Fingers for easier sharing if desired. Serve immediately.
Store any leftover cheese spread in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two weeks.
Notes
Use gluten-free bread to make your cheese toast gluten-free. For the ultimate comfort food, use a white, thick-cut sandwich bread like Texas toast. For heartier cheese toast, use crusty bread like sourdough.Note that if you're using the cheese spread from the fridge, it will be a little hard and difficult to spread. In this case, you can put the bread with the cheese spread under the broiler for just 20-30 seconds before you attempt to spread it. This will soften the mixture so it will spread easily.
